Heavy equipment dealers sometimes approach online marketing as an either-or decision.
Should we invest in our dealership website, or should we list inventory on equipment marketplaces?
For most dealers, the better answer is both—but they should work together.
Your dealer website builds your business
Your website is your home on the internet. It establishes your dealership brand, locations, inventory, sales team, services, financing options, contact information and expertise.
Most importantly, it gives your dealership an opportunity to build a direct relationship with buyers.
Marketplaces solve a different problem
A marketplace gives inventory another place to be discovered. A buyer may not know your dealership exists, but may know exactly what they want: a used excavator, mixer truck, wheel loader or skid steer.
A marketplace can connect that buyer with relevant inventory from multiple sellers. That is valuable exposure.
The problem starts when the systems are disconnected
Imagine your dealership website has 85 active machines while your marketplace account has 77 because eight were never uploaded. Three prices are outdated. Two machines sold yesterday but still appear online.
Now the marketing system is creating friction instead of reducing it.
The better model is shared inventory
Your website and marketplace should not be competing databases. They should be different storefronts connected to the same underlying inventory.
Your website gives buyers a direct relationship with your dealership. Marketplaces expand the number of places where inventory can be found. Connected inventory allows you to do both without unnecessary duplicate work.
This is part of the BigEquipCo model
BigEquipCo is developing marketplace distribution and dealer-facing tools around the same Command Center.
The objective is not to replace a dealer's identity. It is to help dealers put inventory in front of more relevant equipment audiences while maintaining one manageable inventory workflow.
That includes the broader BigEquipCo marketplace as well as specialized properties such as YellowEquipCo, BigTruckCo and BigConcreteCo.
BigEquipCo Launch Partners are being selected now
BigEquipCo is working with a limited group of dealerships before launch. Launch Partners receive pre-launch onboarding and 50% off membership for the first six months.
If you want your dealership's inventory positioned for the BigEquipCo marketplace network from the beginning, explore the Partnership program.
